ARM Cortex-A75, Cortex-A55 and GPU Mali-G72 processors: Features and Performance

The British company was among the first to make an important announcement by taking advantage of the previous event in Taipei, as it has decided to present its new processors ARM Cortex-A75 and Cortex-A55.

New generation has been accompanied by the Mali-G72 GPU, a high performance solution that can be used in various configurations with different number of graphic cores to better adjust the power-performance binomial.

We start with the processors. ARM Cortex-A75 cores are presented as an evolution of the Cortex-A73 and are therefore included as high-performance solutions. ARM has maintained the manufacturing process at 10 nm but has managed to improve gross yield.

This means that at the same working frequency ARM Cortex-A75 core yields on average 20% more than a Cortex-A73, although everything depends on the configuration chosen and the consumption applied. We must take this nuance very well, since those new nuclei in its most powerful version (2 watts of consumption) can be maintained at 3 GHz without problem and offers a not insignificant power.

ARM Cortex-A55 processors are an evolution of the Cortex-A53, which means that they position as solutions that prioritize efficiency over performance but without making great sacrifices.

Taking a look at performance in general we found that it surpasses the previous generation by an average of approximately 18%, as long as both work at the same frequency.

ARM Cortex-A75

Both architectures offer greater energy efficiency (better performance per watt) than their predecessors, although consumption has remained practically at the same level, which means that ARM has given a clear priority to power in this new generation.

Jumping to the Mali-G72 CPU we have a very important evolution. The British firm has raised the total number of graphics cores to 256 (8 cores x 32 blocks). This translates into a gross yield improvement of up to 40% and an improvement in efficiency of 25%.

In the image that we accompany you can see its performance compared to an NVIDIA GeForce GT 710 and also against that of the Mali-G71.

We remind you that giants like Samsung and Qualcomm could use these new generations in their next Exynos and Snapdragon SoCs, although in the case of the second will dispense with the Mali-G72 GPU in favor of its Adreno solutions. This was all about ARM Cortex-A75, Cortex-A55 and GPU Mali-G72 processors.
