The rumors that Microsoft was working on a successor of Lumia 950 and Lumia XL 950 have proven to be true, as just confirmed complete filtration that has had origin in the social network.
In the image that we accompany we can see the preliminary finish of a prototype known as RM-1162, a terminal that if it had been successful it could have been “baptized” as Microsoft Lumia 960 or Lumia 980.
At design level of Microsoft Lumia 960, we do not see big changes in the frontal. However, in the back we find a different line and an aluminum finish material that Microsoft has not come to use in any commercial smartphone yet.
As far as the specifications are concerned, the RM-1162(Microsoft Lumia 960) would mark a considerable evolution as successor to the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL, since it has:
- 5-inch screen with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels.
- SoC Snapdragon 820.
- 4 GB of RAM.
- 32 GB of storage capacity.
- 20 MP rear camera with triple flash, 8 MP front.
- Double speaker on the front.
Some sources indicate that this terminal was not going to be squared exactly in the Lumia range but it was come to pose like candidate to Surface Phone, although it is not officially confirmed so it is only a rumor.
We do not have a specific explanation to clarify the reasons that led to Microsoft canceling this terminal, but it is clear that it did not have any truly differentiating features and it is likely that Redmond decided to suspend its development.
