Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 with eight-core CPU: Specs and Features

The SoC giant is working on a new chip called Qualcomm Snapdragon 450, a solution that as its name suggests will mean a renewal of its mid-range solutions for terminals that prioritize overall price but without sacrificing acceptable performance.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 450

At the specification level Qualcomm Snapdragon 450, its CPU will have eight cores based on the Cortex-A53 architecture, characterized by low power consumption but also inferior performance compared to more advanced ones like the veteran Cortex-A57 and the new Cortex-A73 and A75.

Those eight cores will be divided into two blocks of four cores each. This is the classic big.LITTLE structure that activates one or another block depending on the needs of the system to provide the highest possible efficiency.

Since they will share the same architecture the only difference between the two will be the working frequency, so that the first block could operate at a maximum of 2.2 GHz and the second at 1.6 GHz.

The GPU will be an Adreno 506 running at 600 MHz, enough to enjoy good performance in games and demanding applications. We do not have information about the LTE modem that will include, but most likely will keep the same as we saw in the Snapdragon 435, which means that its download and upload speeds would be 300 Mbps and 100 Mbps.

It does not sound too bad, especially considering that we are talking about a chip for cheap mid-range smartphones, but the interesting thing is that this Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 will jump to the process of 14 nm, a major change since the previous solutions are maintained in the 28 nm process.
