During the presentation of the Honor 7X and Honor View 10, the Chinese giant offered a preview of what is known as “Point Cloud Depth Camera,” technology that according to the latest rumors could be integrated directly into the Huawei P11.
As you know those, who read us every day the Huawei P11 will be the next top of the range that the Chinese company will launch during the first quarter of next year. We hope that this terminal comes with a SoC Kirin 970, the same one we have seen in the Huawei Mate 10 and that it maintains the finish in glass and metal.
Thanks to that “Point Cloud Depth Camera” this smartphone could offer a facial recognition at the height of the iPhone X, which would allow Huawei to remove the fingerprint reader and take a step beyond the 18: 9 format.
We do not have details about the possible design that the Huawei P11 will have but if this information is confirmed it is very likely that the company decides to reduce the edges of the front to the maximum, or that it even chooses to limit the upper area to a notch similar to the one we saw in the Essential Phone and the iPhone X.
Another interesting feature of this phone could be the infinite focus with 3 rear camera configuration, and we are very excited to see if it is going to be a reality.
It will be necessary to see what path other big companies in the sector take with their next top-of-the-range smartphones, such as Samsung and LG, although in the case of the first, everything seems to point to the fact that they have not had time to develop their own facial recognition technology with sensors from depth.
This means that the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 + will continue to use the classic fingerprint reader and may not mount a Face ID level solution up to the Galaxy Note 9 or the Galaxy S10.
