As the name suggests, the Intel Core i7-8720HQ processor belongs to the eighth generation chip family. At the same time, it uses the same BGA package with 1440 contacts, which is also used for seventh-generation devices. However, the special feature of the novelty is the fact that it belongs to the Coffee Lake family and contains 6 computational cores. This will be Intel’s first six-core mobile processor. And thanks to the support of HyperThreading technology, the processor is capable of processing 12 instruction flows.
The Intel Core i7-8720HQ operates at a nominal frequency of 2.4 GHz and supports the ability to dynamically raise the frequency to 3.6 GHz in Turbo Boost mode. It should be noted that only 9 MB of the L3 cache is active in this chip, although 12 MB are physically available in the device.
It is expected that the Intel Core i7-8720HQ processor will appear on the market as part of high-performance gaming laptops in the first quarter of 2018.
