At Computex, Intel intrigued the public with a new line of Core X processors. The most powerful of the series was the 18-core Intel i9-7980XE. Meanwhile, the manufacturer did not disclose the technical characteristics of the chip at the conference.
Now Intel has shared all the information about the novelty – judging by the specifications, the processor has become the most powerful representative of the Core series. At the same time, details became known about other i9 models, including their cost.
Intel Core i9-7980XE runs at a base frequency of 2.6 GHz, but thanks to Turbo Boost 3.0 it accelerates to 4.4 GHz, and Turbo Boost 2.0 increases the frequency to 4.2 GHz.
The company also disclosed the characteristics of the i9-7960X with 16 cores at 2.8 GHz, i9-7940X with 14 cores at 3.1 GHz, i9-7920X with 12 cores at 2.9 GHz and 10 MHz i9-7900X with a frequency of 3, 3 GHz. Interestingly, the 16-core i9-7960X has already been tested in the benchmark Cinebench R15 – there the processor scored 3,200 points, coming very close to the Xeon E5-2690 V3 with 24 cores.
Intel said that the new processors are designed for enthusiasts who want to get the maximum performance from the computer. The company confirmed the need for the top line with the example of Broadwell-E: the chip was valued at more than $ 1,700, but sales went very well and allowed Intel to gain a foothold in the segment of flagship processors.
The line Core i9, starting from the 7940X, will be on sale September 25, and the 12-core i9-7920X will be released on August 28. The remaining chips are already available for purchase: i9 prices start at $ 999, and the 18-core i9-7980XE will cost $ 1,999.
