The network has the first details of the Samsung Exynos 9810 Octa Core. This mobile processor is destined for the future of the flagship smartphone Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus, and also, it is likely, Galaxy Note 10. Both new items should be released next 2018.
Generally speaking, it’s not right to talk about the processor, but about the “one-chip system” (System-on-a-Chip-SoC) or the chipset, since modern mobile chips include not only the CPU itself, but also the graphics accelerator, modem, WiFi adapter, an image processing coprocessor and many other components.
Exynos 9810 specifications
So, it is expected that Samsung Exynos 9810 will be manufactured according to the technological process either 7 nm or 8 nm at the production facilities of the South Korean giant itself. This will simultaneously both increase the number of transistors on the chip (and, therefore, increase performance), and reduce power consumption and heat.
Actually, the processor will include four high-performance custom cores Exynos M3 and four “quiet” core ARM Cortex-A53. According to another version, Samsung plans to use more advanced ARM Cortex-A55 cores instead of the latter. The maximum possible amount of RAM will be increased to 16 GB.
The next question is: integrated GPU Exynos 9810. At the moment there is no exact data about it. Rumors attributed the novelty graphics accelerator Mali-G72 GPU from ARM, which was announced in May this year. It supports configurations up to 32 cores and operates at a frequency of up to 850 MHz.
However, Samsung can choose another graphics for the Exynos 9810, for example from PowerVR (as in Apple’s chipsets for the iPhone), or even develop its own solution. The latter is not so incredible given the vast experience of developing its own chips.
The built-in modem of the new Exynos should get support for 4G LTE Category 18 networks. This promises, in turn, the download speed of data up to 1.2 Gbit / s, which is comparable with the 5G. But the transmission speed will, most likely, be at Category 13 (150 Mbps).
Most likely, Samsung integrates into the Exynos 9810 a new coprocessor for image processing with improved support for dual cameras, including options such as zoom and measuring the depth of space. The maximum resolution is, presumably, 21 Mp + 21 Mp.
Other expected features: a new generation of wireless charging, Bluetooth v5.0, fast flash memory controller UFS 2.1, support for two SIM cards, VoLTE, NFC, GPS navigation, Glonass, Beidou and Galileo, tri-band WiFi (2.4 GHz + 5.0 GHz + 60 GHz – 802.11ad).
Exynos 9810 vs Snapdragon 845
Traditionally, Samsung releases its top-end smartphones simultaneously on its own chipsets, and solutions from Qualcomm. This allows you to compare their performance most accurately, since the rest of the hardware “dummy” is almost the same. Samsung processors are stronger in multi-core mode due to better internal optimization, while Qualcomm has a better “single-core” mode. Most likely, in the case of Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 the situation will be similar.
Exynos 9810 vs Apple A11
If you compare the top-end mobile processors Exynos and Apple, the latter has already been showing a much faster computing speed on one core than the first (almost 1.5 times) for several years.
In addition, this year in Cupertino decided to increase the number of cores designed for the iPhone 8 Apple A11 to 6, so that engineers Samsung has to work hard to oppose something serious to its main competitor.
