A Reddit user known as “callingthewolf” managed to rise a processor AMD Threadripper 1950X to 4.1 GHz using a liquid cooling kit in one ThermalTake Water 3.0 Ultimate.
This is a very interesting news since it confirms that it is possible to upload AMD Threadripper 1950X to 4.1 GHz in a stable way without having to use exaggerated voltages or disable cores.
Before someone tells me that 4.1 GHz is little compared to the 4.5 GHz + that other processors get you I remember that we are talking about a chip that has 16 cores and 32 threads, and it goes without saying that it is not the same to overclock a quad-core CPU than one that adds up to four of them.
Clarified this is worth focusing on the particularities of that overclock. The first interesting fact we have in the voltages, since in the original article the user confirms that he was able to raise the working frequency to 4 GHz while maintaining 1.25 volts, a fantastic result.
The problem is that to reach the 4.1 GHz had to raise that voltage to 1.40 volts. Since we are talking about the ZEN architecture it is advisable to keep the processor below that figure if we want to avoid any risk of premature wear.
Seeing the little difference in frequency of work that is obtained with those 0.15 volts more it is clear that it is best to keep the micro in 4 GHz, an overclocking level that offers the best balance in general.
In Cinebench R15 the AMD Threadripper 1950X running at 4 GHz gets a score of 3,337, a figure that far exceeds the 2,464 points that the Core i9 7900X of Intel at 4.6 GHz. This processor has 10 cores and 20 threads, but it is its Rival direct by price (999 dollars).
By passing the GeekBench 3 test with the AMD Threadripper 1950X at 4.1 GHz we get the scores we see in the last image, a result that again surpasses everything we have seen to date in high performance consumer processors.
