ZTE Nubia Z17 has been officially announced and we have taken a surprise with the final specifications of the terminal, as we are facing a very powerful solution that comes with a whopping 8 GB of RAM.
The rapid evolution that has lived the smartphone sector has led us to normalize the jumps in an exaggerated way specifications, but if we make a small act of memory we will realize that until a little more than three years the top-end smartphones of companies such as Samsung came with 2GB of RAM (Galaxy S5), and that Apple still used 1GB of RAM on their iPhone 5s, a figure they kept on the iPhone 6 of 2015.
The increase in the amount of RAM has been enormous and has occurred so quickly that it is difficult to understand exactly what motivated it, especially since today Android continues to work perfectly with configurations of 2 to 3 GB RAM and there are no applications that require a higher amount to function optimally.
What is happening then? Simple, some manufacturers continue to opt for the easy way to innovate in the smartphone market and bet on the idea of ”more is always better”, an erroneous statement as demonstrated by OnePlus 3 with 6 GB of RAM.
In summary, those 8 GB of RAM are a marketing strategy and totally unnecessary as they do not bring real value to the N17, a terminal that could have offered the same performance with 4 GB of RAM.
As for the design the ZTE Nubia Z17 is a pretty nice and well finished smartphone as it is built in metal. They emphasize their frames, that are quite thin, and the touch of color that contribute the details in red.
